Milnes Engineering, Construction & Surveying hosted The Boy Scouts of America Troop 518 of Tunkhannock on November 30, 2019. Chief Surveyor Lawrence LaRue L.S., who is a Boy Scout Merit Badge leader, guided several scouts through the requirements necessary to obtain their Survey Merit Badge. Scouts had to show knowledge and skills in the following eight areas:
- First aid
- Basic Surveying Field Techniques
- Legal Descriptions Writing
- Title Research
- GPS Knowledge
- Career Paths and Licensure
The merit badge course was broken into two portions with the first being a six-hour office and field instructional session held at Milnes’ office. Scouts were able to utilize state-of-the art surveying instruments to determine the bearing and distance of a five-sided figure as well as determine the elevations at each corner. The second instructional session was held at the weekly scout meeting where each participating scout prepared a written metes and bounds description and a to-scale map for the five-sided figure. Five scouts completed all of the requirements necessary to obtain the Surveying Merit Badge.
Milnes Engineering, construction & Surveying. would like to give a special thanks to Nicholas Puza P.L.S. from the Pennsylvania College of Technology who assisted in guiding the scouts through the merit badge requirements.
